About Dunathan Consulting
Dunathan Consulting helps small business owners who feel burdened by administrative tasks to set up straightforward, efficient systems so they have more time for the work that matters. Since our start in 2004, we have worked with a wide variety of clients – from global corporations to tiny non-profits – to improve internal operations and free up staff to do their best work.
We believe in providing practical help to our customers. Our job is to find the simplest, most effective solutions that meet our customers’ needs, get them implemented, and then get out of the way, leaving our customers happily focused on the things they do best.
How do we help? We can help you decide how to manage your bookkeeping and accounting, human resources, IT services, and other internal functions, and we can also select and implement processes, systems, and vendors to help these functions run more smoothly. We can support your strategic planning, budgeting, and financial projections, giving you the tools and assistance you need to feel confident in the results. We can help you capture and manage data for performance measurement and for management of any of your internal functions. We can find ways to integrate data from different systems (financial, HR, payroll, and other data) so you can use it to make business decisions. We can review processes, data, and systems for any business function and suggest (and help implement) ways to reduce frustration and increase efficiency.
Our client focus is small business owners with 1-20 employees who are burdened by administrative work and want to free up their time to focus on their core business. Our past experience includes large and small for-profit and non-profit companies, local governments, and international agencies in a variety of industries.

Founder and Principal Consultant: Andrea L. Dunathan
As an independent consultant, Andrea Dunathan has been helping clients build strong, sustainable organizations since 2004. Building on her prior experience in management, finance, process improvement, and software design in local government, private sector, and university settings, she works closely with clients to assess their needs and implement simple and effective solutions to save time and effort and eliminate frustration.
After graduating with honors from Harvard University, she worked in industries as diverse as biomedical research and global supply chain management, obtaining hands-on experience in strategic planning, facilitation, budgeting and financial reporting, grants management, performance metrics and data management, software design and implementation, and complex project management. She then founded Dunathan Consulting to put this experience to work, helping her clients run their operations more effectively.
Andrea has worked with for-profit and non-profit clients of all sizes (from one to 3,000 employees) to build solid organizational processes and systems, bringing both technical knowledge and change management expertise to her engagements. She has worked with client staff in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, and has traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, Asia, and Australia. Clients value Andrea’s “keen understanding of (and respect for) our business culture, values, and approaches…[and] her uncanny ability to thoroughly assess what we saw as challenges and translate them into meaningful opportunities for the business.”
Andrea’s pro bono work includes serving on nonprofit and cooperative boards as well as advising and teaching workshops on financial management, strategic planning, and budgeting. She is a member of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, the Mid-Atlantic Facilitators’ Network, and Women In Technology.
